*This first chapter is just to establish the difference between Blue Ocean Floor (AU|Pirate!TonyxMermaid!Reader) 1 and this new spin-off. Also, read the story linked if haven't before tackling this. It'll mean more to you. Lastly and most importantly, please read all of the description below. It might just be worth your while~! Okay! Read on!*

Tony wakes with a start, shooting up to survey his surroundings and regretting the sudden movement as the pain spreads throughout his body. His eyes dart about observing and mentally jotting down all he sees. Lit room, worn bed, scuffed cabinets, familiar swaying. He was back aboard the Romanoff, the sickbay to be specific. Tony lets out a weary sigh. He could remember being heaved into that whirlpool, the water, and...Pepper.

Had it just been a dream? An adrenaline driven hallucination? Tony sighs wearily as he runs a hand through messy hair.

"Thanks for all you've done. I really appreciate it. We all do."

Tony hears Bruce's voice in sync with the creaking of the stairs, a clear sign that the man was making his was back down here to sickbay, likely to check on Tony.

"Oh don't mention it! I'm glad I managed to help, especially after loafing about the past few days."

"Are you kiddin' me? If it weren't for you the world would be in ruins and Tony would be dead!" Clint exclaims, and Tony watches as the man throws an arm around your shoulder.

Your face flushes red at his compliment and after placing the box in your hand down on the table you move your gaze to the floor.

"Oh, you're exaggerating..."

Tony doesn't particularly care for the way you blush for Clint. The captain's fairly certain a look like that should be reserved only for him.

“Oh. Look who finally decided to wake up,” Bruce says with a knowing smirk, as he gestures to Tony with the nod of his head.

“Well if it isn’t the Captain!” Clint adds in enthusiastically, but neither of them move forward.

And a good they didn’t too, for they would’ve only wound up beneath your hurried feet. You’re temporarily in flight as you all but throw yourself into Tony’s arms. He groans at the pain your sudden weight induces and you quickly remove yourself from his person.

“So sorry! I just got so excited!” You reply with an apologetic smile, but the elation in your eyes hasn’t dimmed in the slightest.

Clint throws Bruce a playful wink and the doctor rolls his eyes as he forces the man up the stairs before shutting the door behind himself, politely giving you and Tony sometime alone. Tony quickly recognizes the gesture, but you’re much too full of him to notice their sudden departure. You drop gently to your knees beside the bed, taking up Tony’s closest hand in both of yours as you eye him with pure admiration and relief.

“How long have I’ve been out?”

“Just a week or so. How are you feeling?” you ask gently and Tony groans tiredly as he rests his head against the wall behind him.

“I’ve definitely been better.”

You laugh merrily, “I’m sure!”

Tony smiles gently as he pulls his hand from you to run it through your hair as he silently takes you in. Your sparkling eyes, your kissable lips, and your clothes. He frowns as he notices the turquoise dress you’re wearing and you frown at the sight.

“Is something wrong?"

“Where'd you get the dress?”

“Oh, this? Clint picked out for me when we stopped at this town called Sacre. Bruce had mentioned how I couldn’t keep wearing items from your wardrobe, so everyone was kind of enough to purchase me a few dresses of my own!”

“And Clint picked that one?”

You nod absently, that pure smile still playing about your lips.

“You should get rid of it. Actually why don’t you get rid of them all.”

“What?! Whatever for? They’re all so lovely and everyone took the time to help me find them…”

“I don’t particularly care to see you in the garments another man picked for you, let alone four different men.”

Tony refuses to look at you, opting to keep his gaze on the wall to his left and you tilt you head to the side in slight confusion before smirking slightly.

“Tony…could you be as, Clint says, jealous?”

“Since when do you spend so much time with Clint and no I’m not jealous!”

Tony’s tone is a bit harsh, but it doesn’t deter you in manner whatsoever. You chuckle lightly to yourself before rising to your feet and sitting on the bed beside Tony. You run a gentle hand down his well shaved face—Bruce refused to have a rugged and hairy beast laid up in his place of work. You smile at him, wholeheartedly and lovingly. Tony sighs contently, leaning into the touch as he brings a hand up to gently take your wrist into his hand.

“Tony—!” “(Name)—!”

You both pause having spoken at the same time. A grin raids your lips and Tony barks out a laugh. The laughter between you both is short-lived when Tony begins to experience some pain in his abdomen.

“I suppose sometimes laughter isn’t always the best of medicines,” you tease as you poke him lightly in the cheek and he chuckles softly as he takes your hand into his.

Tony falls silent as he observes your digits in his hands before twining his fingers about yours and drawing your hand up to his lips, kissing your knuckles.

“I should’ve told you this a lot sooner, but I supposed I lack the courage to do so.”

You remain silent as you patiently wait for Tony to continue.

“I’ve done a lot of wrong in my life. Things I will have to live with for the rest of my life, but I know that every wrong step I took led me to you. And with you by my side I can begin to take the right ones…”

Tony sighs fondly as he looks to you, wholly and openly.

“So if you find that you don’t completely hate me by now, I’d love it if you’d stay with me…”

Your heart is racing as you watch him, but the dam of your emotions overflows and topples altogether as you throw yourself forward, wrapping your arms about his neck as you connect your lips to his passionately. Tony’s hand venture up to your back, lightly traveling up and down your figure.

“Yes!” you reply against his lips, “I’d love to stay with you!”

Finally Tony manages a smile after much needed air and you with giggle mirthfully.

“What about your sisters?”

You shrug, feigning nonchalance, “It’s not as though I’d be the first mermaid to leave to be with her mate…”

“But you would be the first in a long time…” Tony replies, trailing off as he goes.

Reluctantly you nod in agreement before shaking your head as your confirm your decision, “That may be so, but it’s my decision to make. I’ll take my chances! Anthony, I want to be with you.”

The moment those words pass your lips Tony tugs you in close, firmly disregarding the pain that electrifies in his abdomen. You startle at the abrupt gesture, but with a soft smile you move to nestle in close, resting your head upon his chest while being mindful of his wounds.

“So I can stay then?  With you, I mean.”

Tony merely hums in agreement, not quite certain that words could ever relay just how much he wanted you to stay. But he needs not speak for you understand perfectly well."
“What are we to do now?” you inquire as you walk beside Tony, body revved to move in and catch him if he stumbles.

The Captain was steadily growing weary of the constant coddling both you and the crew were bestowing upon him. He was more than capable of handling himself. As the thought crosses his mind a sharp pains slithers about his shoulder reminding him of his reckless behavior a few weeks ago. Okay, well he was capable of managing himself, more or less.

Tony muses at the thought. Only a few weeks ago he’d put both his and his crew’s lives on the line and, most importantly, stumbled upon you. The Captain glances sideways, taking in your inquisitive gaze, before he smiles and reaches out a hand to ruffle your hair.

“Anthony!” you chide as you swiftly draw away and make to get your hair into order once more.

Tony merely replies with a chuckle and you frown, feigning anger at the sound.

“Well our next route of action would be to take the Tesseract somewhere far from reach, somewhere it’ll be safe…for good this time.”

You nod slowly as your eyes veer leftward and towards the water, observing the almost magical way the sun gleamed across its endless blue surface.

“I certainly hope so…”

Tony offers you a playful quirk of his lips as he reaches out to take up your right hand. You gaze at him curiously as you allow him to wrap his digits about your own.

“What is it?” you inquire and Tony merely shakes his head.

“Nothing,” he mutters, pausing briefly to lay a soft kiss atop your head, “It’s nothing at all.”

Letting out a huff of disbelief, you regard him with slightly narrow eyes. The captain returns your gaze with a lopsided grin that relays to you that you would be receiving no answers anytime soon. You sigh with resignation before looking back to the crystal waters, opting to settle for the heated warmth of Tony’s hand wrapped about your own.

“(Name),” Tony calls mirthfully.

Tony steps forward, dipping his head down a bit to match your height, and presses his lips to your own. You’re quick to melt into his embrace, permitting the hand that wasn’t holding your right one to travel teasingly up and down your spine. You shudder at the feather-light touch at your back and Tony chuckles against your lips.

“It’s not funny,” you reproach, your lips and breath dancing across his lips.

“I beg to differ,” he replies as he repeats his earlier action, sending a delightful chill down your spine.

Your next reply dissolves into but a muffled moan and Tony’s grins roguishly. He moves in to kiss you once more, but his efforts are thwarted by the sudden crash from the deck below.

“What was that?” you question, turning your face in the direction of the clamor.

“Nothing important, I’m sure,” Tony remarks dryly, displeased at having your focus removed from him.

Interested, you reaffirm your grip about Tony’s hand and tug him along down the stairs and onto the main deck. You search about the area but find nothing out the ordinary. It’s the splashing of water in the near distance that then garners your attention. You move to investigate the sound when a joyful cry seemingly rips from the heaven

Clint swings past you an impressive speed, grip locked about the rope tied to the top of the nest. You chuckle giddily at the sight of him eventually releasing his hold and dropping into the waters.

“Bombs away!” Clint cries just before his body meets the water is submerged.

You look to Tony with an expression of pure elation before withdrawing your hand from his and making your way over the ship’s edge, peering over with mirthful curiosity. Clint reemerges with a hefty dose of laughter bubbling past his lips and you cannot help but join in at the sight. The nest man runs a hand through his hair, forcing the dripping wet tendrils out of his face, and his eyes then settle on you.

“You should come on in, kid! The water is fine!” Clint calls with a wave before leisurely reclining to float upon his back.

You throw him a positively beaming smile before flashing that grin to Tony. You then turn your eyes to Thor, who was wading in the water beside Clint, and wave. As you mind the men in the water, elbows propped up on the ship’s edge and head help within your hands, Steve and Bruce draw near to address Tony.

“Captain,” Bruce greets simply, a small smile upon his lips.

Steve offers a nod of recognition from his place beside the good doctor.

“Bruce. Steve,” Tony replies, bestowing both his crew members a nod of his own, a look of dissatisfaction etched across his visage.

“Now what exactly are our ship’s jesters up to now?” Steve queries with a devilish grin, already aware as to what has left their Captain so irked.

Tony rolls his eyes with the shake of his head and Bruce lets out a soft chuckle at the sight.

“No good, that’s what,” the Captain mutters.

“So, nothing out of the ordinary then?” Bruce teases and Steve grins with a nod of agreement.

“I suppose our Captain is just peeved that he’s not the only one who can capture the little mermaid’s attention.”

Tony’s flat gaze is the only response he offers and both men laugh yet again at the expression upon his face. The men move together towards the ships edge to peer over it alongside you, Tony at your right and Steve and Bruce to your left.

“Come on, (name)! You know you want to!” Clint appeals with yet another wave from down below and you offer him a smile and an eager nod.

You look down to your dress, running your tongue along your lips as you ponder your state of dress alongside the desire to allow the cool waters to meet your skin. You look back to the calm blue lapping below you, calling your name, and shrug, scaling the ship’s edges with. Gracefully you push from the wooden edge before bounding smoothly and majestically into the water. When you come back up you come back up laughing, hair plastered to the sides of your face.

“10 out of 10!” the pirate jokes as he swims over to you

“Agreed!” Thor exclaims from his distant place behind you.

The wide grin Clint has plastered to his face falls almost immediately when he finally draws near. He falls silent and you look to him with concern.

“Clint?” you call softly, body slightly bobbing in the passing gentle waves.

Clint shakes his head almost immediately, eyes blinking rapidly before his grin slips back into place. He lets out a loud whistle as he points down towards the water and you follow his gaze.

Clint’s most intrigued as he takes genuine notice of your tail and you instantly understand his prior reaction.

“You really are a mermaid, huh?” Clint teases.

You quirk a playful brow with a smirk in place, “What? Did you not believe me before?”

Clint shakes his head with a soft smile, “Nah, it’s just…wow! I mean, I know we saw all those other mermaids before, but it’s kind of different with you, seeing your own tail and whatnot.”

You smile fondly, shifting your body to draw your tail up and offer it to the brunette man, “It’s nothing special. Still very fish-like I must admit.”

Almost unconsciously Clint reaches out a hand, but stops abrupt short simply opting to drop his hand back into the water.

“I’ll take your word for it,” he teases mirthfully, eyes veering up towards the ship’s edge.

You follow his line of sight and notice Tony. You wave to him pleasantly, but his does not return the gesture, merely frowning with narrowed brows. You furrow your own brows with confusion and Clint whistles playfully.

“That’s a jealous one ya got there, (name). I’d be careful if I were you!”

“And I you,” Thor jokes as he points to Clint.

The smaller man nods in agreement, throwing you a saucy wink before diving back down beneath the cool waters. With a faint smile you watch his form blur with the water before turning your gaze to Thor, who was now beside you.

“What did Clint mean?” you inquire and Thor looks to you, a lone brow quirked in amusement.

He chuckles deeply before reaching out to pat you on the head. You accept the gesture, but your eyes still look to him expectantly. Thor shakes his head, bringing a finger to his lips.

“Now that, my lady, is a secret you must unearth yourself.”

And with that the Asgardian is off, diving beneath the crystal blue. You lips curve into a frown as you watch him go and not even the sight of the large man singlehandedly forcing Clint beneath the surface of the water can remove the perpetual perplexity upon your face. You huff somewhat indignantly, folding your arms across your chest with puffed cheeks, before glancing up to the ship’s edge only to find Tony’s form to be absent. The frown marring your face further deepens as you ponder upon Thor’s words, wading absently in the easy waves.
Okay. Here it is. The PREVIEW!!  I've been working on this for a long time. There's still much to do, but I've gotten a decent few chapters in. Firstly, this is a spin-off to my story Blue Ocean Floor (AU|Pirate!TonyxMermaid!Reader) 1. If you haven't read that, then this series might not mean much to you. Secondly, this series is going to be a bit more humorous and light-hearted than is predecessor. There's an overlying plot--finding somewhere safe for the Tesseract--but other than that each chapter is just going to be fun and silly adventures in which Romanoff Crew wind up on and the many odd people they meet along the way. Strange new places, weird cities, and hidden treasure~!

I needed something more light these days, plus I can still write about mermaids. You'll definitely be meeting quite a few as well as some other Marvel character, for better or worse.

Finally, I'm open to ideas. One can only come up with so many quirky ideas. So if you have a character to want to see in this silly fic or perhap some strange event you want to happen let me know. I'm going to open a jornal for you all to leave your ideas in the comments. If you have an OC in mind, upload a character bio here on your DA page and send me the link in the memo. Just keep in mind that this series is just a fun and fluff filled messed. We'll be a little serious every now and then, but not often. Also, keep the aura and plot of this story in mind. No strange time travel or alternate universe craziness please. This could be fun, a little piece of you all could be in every chapter. I'll be sure to feature/credit you all in the comments~! Let me know!

Anyhow, strap in for some ambiguous mythology and quirky quests!!
